I recently decided to switch from Google Chrome to Mozilla Firefox. No reason, I just felt like it was time to mix it up. I started using Firefox as my main browser, but I kept Chrome installed and occasionally running.
A few days into the switch, I noticed that I was getting frequent Facebook notifications in the lower right corner of my screen -- little pop-ups that were, quite frankly, very annoying. I went into Facebook to try to turn them off. No luck. I went into Windows 10's Settings menu and Action Center to try to turn them off. Again..no luck. Where the heck were they coming from?
Ah. Google Chrome. Because Google Chrome notifications will never die, even when you're not actively using the browser, apparently. (Just kidding, Google Chrome was set to run in the background on my PC -- here's how to stop that from happening.)

Google Now is a glimpse of the future, a digital assistant that knows a surprising amount about you. It's not for everyone though, and you might not want the app keeping tabs on everything you're doing (and making suggestions accordingly). Here's how to disable some or all of the Google Now service on your Android phone.
Disabling Google Now
You probably signed up to have Google Now augment your life when you first set up your phone, so it will feel like an integral part of the operating system, but the option to disable it isn't too difficult to find. From Google Now, scroll down and tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then choose Settings to get at the app's key options.

Toggle the switch at the top of the screen to turn off everything in Google Now in one fell swoop then confirm your choice on the subsequent dialog box. At the same time you also have the option to disable Location History. This feature lets Google monitor your location across all logged-in devices and adapt its services accordingly. Disabling it does not erase your previous Location History or turn off Location Reporting (i.e. where you are right now).

Disabling certain cards and features
If you don't want to go the whole hog and disable Google Now completely, you can tweak the individual cards that it displays. On any card, tap the menu icon (three vertical dots) and you'll be asked if you want to keep receiving updates on this type of topic. Further card options (if available) can be accessed by tapping the left or right arrows in the card.

Alternatively you can scroll down to the bottom of the Google Now screen and tap the icon that looks like a magic wand. All of the available cards are shown here—including the ones that you've previously disabled—and in most cases you'll be able to disable or enable the cards as you wish. Some of the Google Now categories, like sports, let you customize the alerts further by specifying the teams you're interested in following.

If one of your contacts has already send you a picture using Gmail, anytime you open a new message from this contact Google shows you at the left side of your page a thumbnail of the last picture that he sent.

What I am talking about is when you open a mail from a contact that has already sent you a picture file. Google will show at the upper right, down to gear setting a link called: recent photos. And you can see a preview of all the recent photo that this contact sent you.
That's what I am trying to get rid off!- Since the photos are part of the People Widget, I think your only option is to turn off the People Widget.

How to Enable or Disable Explorer Thumbnail Previews in Windows 7 and Windows 8
This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer for all or specific users in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Displaying thumbnails in Windows Explorer will require that Windows Photo Viewer is set as the default program with all of it's default associations (except .gif files) set with it as well.
If you disable thumbnail previews, then they will also not display in the preview pane in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
If you disable thumbnail previews, then they will also not display in the preview pane in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
If there are a lot of thumbnails in a Windows Explorer window, then it can slow down your computer while you wait for the thumbnails to load. If this happens, then disabling thumbnails will speed up how fast a Windows Explorer window will open by displaying only icons instead of thumbnails.
When thumbnail previews is enabled, you will need to have the icon view size in the Windows Explorer window set to either Medium Icons, Large Icons, or Extra Large Icons to see a thumbnail of the file or folder.
