Before reinstalling Windows 10 or before moving to a new PC, many users like to backup user profiles so that they can easily restore user profiles after reinstalling or switching to a new Windows 10 PC.
Unlike Windows 7 and earlier versions, there is no Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 10 to move transfer your files and settings from one PC to another. However, since it’s possible to reinstall Windows 10 without losing data, many users are not worried about user profiles while reinstalling.
If for any reason, you want transfer user profiles from one Windows 10/8/7 PC to anther Windows 10/8/7 PC, you can use a free tool called Transwiz.

Transwiz is a free software for Windows operating system designed to help users transfer user profiles, settings and data from one Windows PC to another with ease.
The Transwiz program sports a wizard-style interface, which is very straight-forward and easy-to-use even for novice users.

When you backup a user profile using Transwiz, all data and settings are saved in a zip archive, which means you can view backed up data without using Transwiz or any other third-party software as well.
The only catch with Transwiz program is that it can’t backup or transfer a live profile or a profile which is currently being used. That is, for instance, if you have only one user profile on your PC, Transwiz can’t transfer your user profile data.
When you try to move a live profile, you get “The profile is currently in use. To transfer this profile make sure the user has signed off and then try again” message.
Using Transwiz is fairly easy. Refer to the given below directions to backup and restore user profiles and settings in Windows 10/8/7.
Backup a user profile using Transwiz
Step 1: Visit this page and download Transwiz program. Extract the zip file to get the executable. Note that this is a standalone program, meaning that it can be run without an installation.
Step 2: Run Transwiz on your PC from where you want to transfer user profile. Choose I want to transfer data to another computer radio button and then click Next.
Step 3: Select a user profile which you want to backup or transfer. Click Next button. Note that you can’t backup or transfer a user profile which is being used.
Step 4: Type in a name for your profile and then select a location to save the same. As said before, Transwiz compresses user profile data with default but if you don’t want to do so please check Fast Pack option.
Step 5: Next, you will be asked to enter a password to protect the file containing your user profile data. Set a password and then click Next.
Step 6: The program will begin backing up your user profile data. The backup should be done in a few seconds. Once done, you will see “transfer has been successfully created” message.
To restore a user profile using Transwiz
Step 1: Run Transwiz program and select I have data I want to transfer to this computer option.
Step 2: Browse to the user profile file that you created previously. Click Next.
Step 3: Enter the previously set password to open the backed up user profile file.
Step 4: Select the account name of the user where you want to restore the profile to and then click Next button to begin restore the profile.

Even though most of the included Windows 10 apps have already garnered their fair share of negative press, some of the core pieces of the puzzle like the Mail and Calendar apps have proven themselves as worthy additions to the overall lineup. We’ve already shown you how to get your Gmail account working in the Mail app, however, if you run your own email server or rent one from another independent provider, setting up a POP3 email account can be a bit more complicated than a standard configuration.
Here’s how to funnel your custom POP3 email into the Windows 10 Mail app.
Retrieve POP3/SMTP Addresses
To start, you’ll need to access your web server to find out what their server addresses are.

For incoming email, the address will usually look something like “pop.[emailserver].net”, with no brackets. As an example, my email server (hosted on GoDaddy.com), hides these addresses in the “Server Settings” portion of its email management site.
For the outgoing email, you’ll want to take down the address of anything that looks like it has the acronym “SMTP” in it. Again, in this example GoDaddy uses “smtpout.secureserver.net” to handle any requests for outgoing or sent mail.
Configure the Account in the Windows 10 Email App
After you’ve located and recorded the proper addresses, open the Windows 10 Email app either from the Start menu or your list of apps.
Once here, find the Settings icon, which is located in the bottom left corner of the Mail app.
Click in, and on the menu which pops up from the right hand side, choose the “Accounts” option.
From here the menu will show you a list of all the accounts you currently have linked to the Windows 10 app. Select the option to “Add account” with the plus sign attached, and you’ll be greeted by the prompt below.
In order to add a POP3 based account, in the list of available providers you’ll want to choose “Advanced Setup”, highlighted below.
After you click this you’ll be taken to the following window, where you need to select the choice for “Internet Email”.

After you’ve selected Advanced Email, you’ll need to enter all the information you acquired from your third-party email service.
First, choose a name for the account that Windows can use to label it and make it distinctive from any other providers you may have already added previously.
Next, fill out your username and password combo, which gets you into the server and retrieves any mail, calendar appointments, or notifications that might be stored in the internal inbox.
After that, plug in the incoming POP server information (once you’ve chose POP3 from the drop-down menu), and the outgoing SMTP address.
A completed form should look something like this, with the username, password, and completed SMTP account info all filled out and ready to go.
It’s in this window you’ll also have the opportunity to alter settings such as whether or not the outgoing server will require authentication when you send an email, if SSL is required for incoming or outgoing messages, as well as if the same username and password combination will be attached to any messages stored in your outbox.
Once these are all cleared, click Sign-in, and you’re good to go.
If the account was added successfully, you should now see it appear on the right-hand pop up bar which lists all accounts tied to the Windows Mail ecosystem.
Verify the Connection
After the Mail app confirms your account has gone through, it’s best to verify that the email actually works by either having a friend send you a test email, or creating one yourself from a third-party account.
Here I’ve opted to use the Gmail web client to test that my internal POP3 is properly configured to receive emails from outside addresses.
The Windows 10 Mail app is a convenient way to keep all your different email accounts across dozens of different services and independent providers collected in the same place, and setting it up is as easy as one, two, “POP3”.

When you’re ready to send an email from the Windows 10 Mail app, follow these steps to compose your letter and drop it in the electronic mailbox, sending it through virtual space to the recipient’s computer:
- From the Start menu, open the Mail app’s tile (shown here) and click the New Mail icon (it’s a plus sign icon) in the app’s top-right corner.A blank space fills the app’s right side, awaiting your words.If you’ve added more than one email account to the Mail app, first choose your return address by clicking your desired account name from the Mail app’s bottom-right corner. Then click the New Mail icon in the program’s top-right corner.
- Type your friend’s email address into the To box.As you begin typing, the Mail app scans your contacts for both names and email addresses, listing potential matches below the To box. Spot a match on the list? Click it, and the Mail app automatically fills in the rest of the email address.

- If you want, add any formatting, tables, files, or photos to your email.The menu directly above your composed email offers three tabs, each with different options:
- Format: This option lets you change your email’s formatting by selecting portions of your email and then clicking the bold, italics, underline, or font color icons along the window’s top edge, as shown earlier. To change the font size, click the tiny downward-pointing arrow next to the underlined A icon. A menu drops down, letting you change fonts, font size, as well as clear the formatting from any selected item.
- Insert: Click here to attach files. This tab also lets you insert tables, pictures, and add hyperlinks.
- Review: Click here after composing your email to give it a final spellcheck.

If you are unhappy with win 10 mail and liked Windows live mail there is a good non microsoft app that can replace it called emclient.
There is a replacement for Windows live mail that is free for personal use (up to 2 accounts) that DOES work with the new outlook mail format called emclient. There is also a paid version. You can get either here
It works with Exchange, POP, IMAP, and looks similar to Windows live mail. Frankly it is the first replacement I have seen that actually works. I have switched.
You can import all your windows live mail into emclient easily by doing a file>import>windows live mail. This will import your current WLM data into emclient
Out of an abundance of caution I would make a copy of the entire WLM folder and save it to a safe location.

Most reviews I've seen for emclient are positive apart from the following which says:
The OAuth2 APIs which are used by many clients and services just doesn't work with emClient and the company, whilst acknowledging the problem and not fixing it, simply suggests turning off security to get round the issue! This is both irresponsible and shows appalling customer care for paid users.

I have not come across the problem. If you are concerned about it support for emclient is on their forums. I merely suggested an alternative to the venerable WLM which unfortunately will fade into oblivion sometime in June.,

I will go for emclient. I've checked other applications but they have problems. It seems emclient is better than the other ones. It's a shame that Microsoft engineers haven't included a messages transfer option to the Mail application for windows 10.
